The team at Rope Neuro Rehab have extensive experience in the treatment of stroke at all stages of recovery. It is very important to optimise rehabilitation input within he first few weeks and months of your stroke to maximise ‘neuroplasticity’. This is your brains ability to create new pathways around the area of damage. As time goes on, this can slow down but change and progress can continue to be made months or even years after a stroke, with neurological rehabilitation input.
What will rehabilitation look like?
Have you recently had a stroke? Your symptoms may include:
- Walking pattern (gait)
- Balance
- Transfers
- Mobilizing with a walker or stick
- Equipment needs
- Postural stability
- Upper limb
Rehabilitation Core Principles – NZ and UK guidelines
- Patients should undergo as much therapy appropriate to their needs as they are willing and able to tolerate
- UK guidelines recommend as above but stipulate the minimum intervention of 45 min daily for each therapy required
- 2 systematic reviews (20 RCTs) of levels of exercise therapy within initial 6 months of rehabilitation indicated a greater amount of exercise therapy resulted in higher ability in Activities of daily living and walking (gait) speed
